Also known as base money, the money base, high-powered money (in the U.S.) or narrow money (in the U.K.) is the actual money supply in the economy and reserves that are keep in a central bank.

Another way to interpret this concept is to take the sum of the monetary obligations that a central bank has acquired with the general public and financial systems (bills or notes of legal tender, for example).
