The part of the balance of payments (BOP) that only registers the transactions of goods in one country with the rest of the world during a set period of time. Also known as the balance of trade or active trade balance.

This is basically calculated by subtracting exports of goods from the imports of goods (that is to say their nominal monetary values) during a period of time in one country.
