Person, company or institution that makes an investment. One who commits money in order to earn a financial return.

There are different types of investors:

  • Informal investor: a person who invests directly in new companies or in those in growing stages that do not quote in official markets
  • Institutional investor: legal entity, such as insurance companies, pension funds, or investment funds that invest in financial and capital markets.

In the entrepreneurial field, the role informal investors (business angels) and institutional investors (venture capital) play is very important.
