Also known as circulating capital. It is the part of the capital of a company that is publicly traded and is controlled by small investors.

It is very easy for this part of the capital to change hands regularly. You can also say that the company with more float are those in which small shareholders have more voice in the company, besides the company has more liquidity (cash). A way to think about floating (circulating capital) is that it´s what you have to pay your current expenses with so that you can actually make your products or provide your services.
