This is when the amortization, or repayment of a loan, credit, mortgage, etc., is made before its maturity date.

Since this usually is done to cancel the entirety of the outstanding debt, there sometimes can be a fee charged for early repayment (especially for mortgages since the issuer won’t receive all the funds determined in the amortization schedule, namely the interest).
