Person, company or institution that makes an investment. One who commits money in order to earn a financial return.
There are different types of investors:
- Informal investor: a person who invests directly in new companies or in those in growing stages that do not quote in official markets
- Institutional investor: legal entity, such as insurance companies, pension funds, or investment funds that invest in financial and capital markets.
In the entrepreneurial field, the role informal investors (
business angels) and institutional investors (
venture capital) play is very important.
